Wild Natives was founded in 2004 by Julie Swift, herself a native of the Bay Area. Her training and gardening philosophy has always been focused on creating sustainable, low impact gardens using native plants and low water and labor practices. As people’s appreciation for the need to have low water and sustainable gardens has grown, so has Wild Natives, now employing a sizeable gardening crew and office manager. Wild Natives is also now offering services to most of the Bay Area.
As Wild Natives has grown, the wide range of residential gardens in the Bay Area made Julie realize that there were two distinct types of garden that she could help; the small, urban gardens in places such as San Francisco, Palo Alto, Berkeley/Oakland, and the larger, estate gardens of places like Atherton, Hillsborough, Woodside, the East Bay hills, and Napa/Sonoma. As such, she and her business partner, Ali, decided to split their thriving gardening business into two parts, Wild Natives, which would focus on the urban gardens of the Bay Area, and Wild Natives Estates, to cover the greater range of needs that larger gardens have.
While the company split into these two sub-companies in 2018 to better focus on each type of garden, both companies share the same philosophy and ethos, not to mention some of the same gardeners and support infrastructure. The goal, as always, is that these changes will allow Wild Natives to better serve clients' needs and help them to create and maintain the gardens of their dreams.

Ron grew up in Southern California, but has lived in the Bay Area for more than 25 years. Recently, he left a job in the Travel industry working as an IT support specialist to pursue a new career in landscape design and maintenance. Travel continues to be a passion of his, and he has taken trips around the world to visit amusement parks and to ride unique and exciting roller coasters - another passion. He swims with the Tsunami Synchronized swim team, and often does volunteer gardening at Tunnel Top Park. He is currently enrolled at City College of San Francisco working on a degree in Environmental Horticulture. As a member of the California Native Plant Society, Ron is committed to incorporating native plants into his garden designs whenever possible. Native plants attract native pollinators, and our urban landscapes benefit from having both.
