The core of our business. We will take charge of a client’s garden and keep it maintained to their desired standard. This includes seasonal plantings, mulching, and all other typical gardening activities. We also take charge of the garden infrastructure (irrigation lines, valves and pumps, upkeep of paths, pathway and accent lighting, ponds, etc) and make sure that it is regularly inspected and that issues are brought to the client’s attention and promptly remediated.
As part of our garden maintenance we can create (soil testing, composting, creation of beds or raised boxes) and maintain (planting, nurturing, and harvesting according to a weekly plan) vegetable gardens for our clients, based on their dietary preference. All inputs will be organic to ensure that all food produced is of the highest quality.
We can also create, maintain and distribute your own, organic compost pile. This helps reduce the amount of fertilizers and other external inputs into your garden and creates a more sustainable, closed system in you garden.
One of our specialties is transitioning your garden to native plants while keeping to the original design aesthetic.
For example should you have a formal ‘English’ garden, we can replace the boxwood hedges with coyote bush (Baccharis pilularis) a native plant that can be trimmed to resemble boxwood, while using a fraction of the water. We can do this in consultation with your landscape architect, or retroactively. Outside of the water savings, the transition to natives also provides a greater benefit to the local ecology, such as providing food sources for natives insects.
Above and beyond the water savings from transitioning to a native palate for your garden, we can actively monitor and manage your water usage. This has been of use to clients who wish to challenge their water bills, be quickly alerted to any irrigation leaks, or more efficiently manage their month-to-month water usage.
For our larger estates, we have pioneered a method of creating a digital map of the irrigation system for documentation as well as use in the field. We have found this makes it much easier to manage the irrigation system repairs and updates.
We can come in and fix problems created by previous gardeners, neglect, etc. We specialize in corrective and aesthetic pruning, soil mitigation and management, irrigation retrofitting, composting, creating wildlife habitat, etc.
Rather than engaging a landscape architect for a formal re-design of problem areas, we can create smaller, less formal designs for individual plant beds, from providing a palette of plants on Pinterest for you to choose from, to creating sketches that show the new bed design visually. We also can plan seasonal refreshes that keep your bed in bloom all year round.
